Huskies step out of conference to take on Wolverines

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

01/17/2010 - Ann Arbor, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 15th-ranked Connecticut Huskies have suffered back-to-back defeats to fall below the .500 mark in league play, but they take a break from Big East action today to contend with the Michigan Wolverines of the Big Ten at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor.

UConn dropped a three-point decision to Georgetown last weekend and followed that effort with a 67-57 setback to Pittsburgh at home on Wednesday. The Huskies are 11-5 overall, and they are set to play just their third true road game of the season today. The previous two have resulted in defeat, so it is fair to say that Jim Calhoun's squad could enter this affair with shaken confidence.

Wins in three of the last four outings have enabled Michigan to improve to 9-7 on the season, including a 3-2 mark against Big Ten opposition. Thursday's victory was extremely impressive, as the Wolverines crushed Indiana by a 69-45 final. Michigan has played nine home games to date, and seven of those have resulted in victories.

UConn owns a 2-0 series lead over Michigan, which includes a 68-61 triumph in last season's meeting.

Connecticut has limited opponents to 65.1 ppg on 37.3 percent field goal efficiency through 16 games, but while the club is scoring 73.2 ppg, generating offense has proven a bit problematic in recent outings. Jerome Dyson is the leading scorer for the Huskies, as he provides 19.0 ppg and 5.3 apg. Stanley Robinson checks in with 17.3 ppg and 7.4 rpg, and Kemba Walker adds 12.5 ppg and 6.1 apg. Gavin Edwards rounds out a quartet of double-digit scorers with 10.6 ppg, and he also adds 6.4 rpg and 46 blocks to the mix. In the recent loss to Pittsburgh, Robinson tallied 19 points in 39 minutes of action, Dyson scored 14, and Walker pitched in with 10 points and seven assists. Defensively, the Huskies limited the Panthers to 39 percent shooting from the field, but a 17-6 deficit in points from the foul line hurt the cause.

Manny Harris is the leading scorer for Michigan, as he is generating 19.8 ppg to go along with 6.8 rpg, 74 assists and 30 steals. DeShawn Sims is the only other double-digit scorer in the fold, as he provides 17.4 ppg on 52.5 percent shooting from the field. Sims is also pulling down 7.1 rpg, for the Wolverines, who are scoring 69.6 ppg while allowing 62.4 ppg to their opponents. Harris posted 21 points against Indiana on Thursday, and Sims was close behind with 20 points and eight boards. Michigan earned a 17-6 edge in points from the foul line and a 36-29 rebounding advantage. Strong defense also helped the cause, as the Wolverines forced 19 turnovers and limited the Hoosiers to 36.5 percent shooting.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1. In the basement are the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues who all have 100-1 odds to win.
